SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT POLICY FOR NEW PROJECTS
Spinneys Holdings limited and their regional subsidiaries hold dear the future of our planet and seek to deal responsibly by our business conduct and ethics to help protect the environment and acknowledge our environmental and social responsibilities in the design, development and construction of our food stores.
The main principle of our policy is to reduce the carbon emissions during the construction and operation of the premises.
Where economically and practically viable, we seek to incorporate sustainable design, specification, systems and materials to reduce continued erosion of non sustainable resources, and emissions of harmful pollutants.
To this end, all partnering contractors and developers are to consider the following when procuring design and or construction operations in association with Spinneys development programme and refurbishments:
- Solar Shading
- Extent of glazing
- Natural Ventilation
- Natural Lighting
- Water saving devices
- Water recycling opportunities
- Reduction of energy consumption
- Energy efficient plant and machinery
- Solar Energy
- Wind power generation
- Ground source heat pumps
- Specification of materials
- Recycled materials
- Locally sourced materials
- Life Cycle costs and life expectancy of building
HVAC and Electrical plant, including back up generation, should be sited in the most appropriate locations to give efficient distribution of service and reduce wastage owing to onerously circuitous routing.
All timber products included in the project construction, shall be specified and checked to ensure of an origin proven to be from properly regulated, sustainable sources.
All insulative products specified in association with the project must be proven to be free of FCF and HCFC components and mineral fibre products should be used in preference where practicable.
Under no circumstances are any Polystyrene components to be specified or utilised in the construction of the project.
